Free Comicbook Day Festival

This event was inspired by the national Free Comic Book Day that is celebrated across the country and highlights new Free Comic Book covers featuring many of your favorite superheroes and new characters. Our partner, ComiXsense, came to us with an idea and we cultivated this event to bring that vision to life.

The arts foster imagination and critical skills children need to succeed. Children exposed to the arts are 8% more engaged in school, score an average of 92 points higher on their SATs, and can have emotional and cognitive empathy increased by up to 7.2% of a standard deviation. Increased optimism and resilience, as well as interpersonal skills and self-reflection are also benefits of bringing the arts into a child’s life.

Low income communities experience a large gap in arts education compared to wealthier neighborhoods. Lack of funding proves a large hurdle for schools within impoverished areas of the city. Children from lower income families are significantly less likely to have access to consistent art programs in school.

We are looking to bridge that gap somewhat, by bringing this event to an impoverished area of our city. With vendors, artists, and other educational focuses geared towards inspiring children to explore different opportunities they would otherwise not have had access to, we hope to allow them to foster an interest in the arts through this festival.

Every year, this event gets bigger and better, and with the partners we’ve cultivated, we are excited to see this event grow exponentially for the kids who truly need ito
